Jackie Tyler Picture

Jackie was born in Preston and brought up in St Annes-on-Sea. As a child she played the piano and cello and was a member of the Lancashire Schools' Symphony Orchestra. In 1976 when she went on to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Florence Hooton. On leaving music college she was appointed to the CBSO cello section and worked under Simon Rattle for his 18 year tenure with the orchestra and since then with Sakari Oramo and Andris Nelsons. She has developed her musical interests further by taking an active part in the chamber music series, "Centre Stage" at the CBSO Centre, founding a baroque group playing on period instruments and involving herself in the orchestra's education work from its outset in the early 1980s.

Jackie is dedicated to introducing children to music making in a wide range of ways. She has led many repertoire based projects, written resource packs, run teachers' INSET days, as well as developing a wide range of cross-arts and collaborative work. She has worked with all key stages and also with children with special educational needs.
